Lung transplantation has increasingly become a viable option in the long-term care for people living with CF. The road to transplant is not an easy one, emotionally as well as physically. The Rochester/Finger Lakes community is fortunate to have several examples of successful transplant recipients.

With the gratitude drawn from a second chance at life, one family in our community decided to extend a helping hand to others considering the transplant option. The result is a new section on the CFFC web site – Our Lung Transplant Story – that documents their journey from the idea of transplant through the changes brought about by a successful procedure.

While this is their personal story, it is intended as a guide for anyone considering, or in the process of obtaining, a lung transplant. They had to do a lot of learning in a short time. Their hope is that the story – and the tips – will take some of the stress out of the journey for others who follow the transplant path. You will also find an offer of additional assistance on the last page (Our Story: We’re Here for You) of the guide.

We hope you enjoy “the story” and find it useful.
